The Vignoble Art Mas vineyard is located in the town of Visan in the southern part of the Rhône valley.
Close to the AOP Vacqueyras and Gigondas, Visan has been recognized for the quality of its wines and raised to the rank of village. The hectares of the estate occupy an ideal location in the middle of the hills. The terroir is unique and is said to be “the most beautiful in Visan.”
“I created the cellar 10 years ago,” said Xavier Combe, Art Mas resident winemaker. “I was very lucky to be able to take over the vineyard planted by my great-grandfather 100 years ago! I make every effort to respect this treasure as much as possible.”
And that is why the talented Combe immediately adopted organic farming and biodynamics.
“In this area of the valley mechanization is standard,” Combe explained. “However, here at Art Mas, the harvest is done by hand in order to respect the grapes, the vines and the soil as much as possible.
The Art Mas vineyard’s clayey-marly soil and its Mediterranean microclimate make it perfect for growing noble grape varieties like grenache and syrah, according to Combe.
“The 50 to 100 years-old vines produce grapes of great aromatic richness,” he said. “The yields are deliberately kept low to let the terroir express itself at its peak and to increase the concentration of aromas.”
Combe stressed that great care is taken at each stage of the wine making process.
“Everything is thought out and optimized to produce wines of unique style and character,” Combe said. “I like my wines to provide pleasure above all, letting them be the link between the people who share them!
